Uses of Equine Sports Massage

Preventative maintenance – It is easier to prevent a problem than repair the damage and massage enables us to detect small muscular changes earlier, which can lessen permanent damage

Rehabilitation following injury – As well as helping with the problem/injured area we can address soft tissue compensatory issues before they, in themselves, become a problem

Guidance before, during and after training and competition – Ensures your horse is physically performing at his optimum level. The horse requires body work after competition to help it recover from the physical stresses and strains of competition

To investigate changes in disposition or behavioural problems – The majority of behavioural problems are the result of horses being in pain. If we can address the pain this normally will improve their disposition

To address signs of muscular pain or poor performance, signs of which include:

General tactile defensiveness
Agitation whilst being tacked up
Unwillingness to move forward
Refusing jumps or dropping poles
Unable to back up
Not tracking up
Working with quarters in or out
Unable to execute lateral work
Changing canter leads behind
Not striking off in correct canter lead
Unwilling/unable to work up or down inclines or hills
