Improves disposition – If a horse is uncomfortable or in pain they present their objections by changing their behaviour. This is their way of communicating with us that there is a problem starting. Therefore, often when we work on the problem their behaviour and disposition improve as the issue is being relieved

Provides comfort to injured muscles – It encourages scar tissue to be laid down in better patterns, which helps to restore the muscle to better returning function

Enhances performance and gait quality – As it increases the range of motion, stamina and improves disposition. It gives a longer more efficient stride and improvement in gait and performance

Improves circulation - Means less effort during warm-up so energy is conserved for athletic exertion, and waste and toxin elimination is more efficient

Reduces tactile defence – Some horses just don't like to be touched. With a little time, communication and a deliberate touch program they can come around fast making other parts of your routine easier e.g. Grooming, tacking up etc.

Improves muscle tone, lengthens connective tissue and relieves tension

Muscles associated with an orthopaedic issue are kept flexible and free of pain

Assesses the physical condition – Massage enables us to feel tight muscles and subtle changes in texture, tone, temperature and tension. This enables us to detect earlier hard to recognise sub-clinical changes, which can lessen permanent damage
